Common Sense Society–Hungary (CSS–HU) is a Hungarian nonprofit organization that champions the values of liberty, prosperity, and beauty, which are essential for human flourishing and happiness. As part of the CSS network in North America and Europe, we educate 21st-century generations and inform public discourse. Our members discuss current topics in public life through regular meetings, discussions, lectures, workshops, film screenings, and book clubs. We believe that public debates move us forward, thus we facilitate encounters where vivid exchanges and friendly disagreements are possible. CSS–HU strives to disseminate the ideas of civic participation, entrepreneurship, and responsible freedom among university students and young intellectuals in Hungary, highlighting the timeless ideas that have positively shaped human history.

Program Summary

The Common Sense Society internship program is a competitive professional development opportunity for university students and young professionals interested in the nonprofit sector. Over the course of the program, interns will gain valuable experience and insight about a serving and guiding an intellectual community. We are a small platoon with an ambitious mission, and your work as a CSS intern will have a direct impact on our success as an organization. Interns will have the opportunity to take on special projects, attend events tailored to their interests, and receive mentoring. Internships at CSS provide intellectual immersion and are an excellent foundation for a successful career.

The Position

The Program Development Intern will work directly for and shadow the Director of Common Sense Society–Hungary to assist the development, curation, and marketing of programs and events as well as take part in the management of membership and fundraising efforts. Tasks will include background research, assisting event development, preparation of marketing materials, assistance in office management, among others.

General Requirements and Qualifications

  • A passion to serve the common good through effective and impactful action
  • Current student or recent graduate in a relevant field (Humanities, Social Sciences etc.) with a grade average of at least 4.0
  • Full proficiency in English, Hungarian is an advantage
  • Strong intellectual foundations in philosophy, political science, public policy, and culture
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong writing and research capabilities
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
  • Interns are expected to bring their own computers
