Is “Diversity” the New Conformity?

április 11, 2023

A discussion with Mr. Christopher Rufo and Mr. Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy

Members and partners of Common Sense Society–Hungary (CSS–HU) gathered on Thursday, March 30 for a discussion with Mr. Christopher Rufo and Mr. Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy, moderated by Mr. Márton Baranyi. The evening’s speakers reflected on the significance of merit and equality in our culture, on current threats to academic freedom, and learning in Western academia.

Mr. Christopher Rufo is a documentary filmmaker, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, contributing editor at the City Journal and currently a visiting fellow at the Danube Institute. He was recently appointed to the board of New College of Florida by the governor of the state. In his writings, Mr. Rufo explores a range of issues, including “diversity” as an enforced administrative policy of racial and gender preferences.

Mr. Gergely Böszörményi-Nagy is an entrepreneur and former public servant who founded Brain Bar, an annual conference that grapples with future scenarios in the areas of technology, business, politics and lifestyle. He is chairman of the board at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, Hungary’s major educational institution for the creative industries. His book Nonkonform, published in 2022, prepares young readers to think outside the box in an age when an intellectual monoculture is building up under the banner of diversity.

A Common Sense Society Magyarország (CSS–HU) is a nonprofit organization that promotes liberty, prosperity, and beauty through education and public discourse. The educational fellowships, curriculum resources, publications, cultural programs, community initiatives, and national campaigns of CSS–HU illuminate the enduring ideas that have transformed the course of human history for the better. CSS–HU does not receive funding from governments or political parties.
