Should the State Promote Classical Architecture?

február 27, 2023

A lecture and discussion with architecture critic Mr. Catesby Leigh at the CSS Andrássy Salon

Members and friends of Common Sense Society–Hungary (CSS–HU) gathered on Thursday, February 23 for a lecture and discussion with American architecture critic Mr. Catesby Leigh. Mr. Leigh talked about the influence and use of the classical vocabulary, with its roots in Greek and Roman patterns, to build human-scaled and harmonious public buildings throughout the country. He touched upon the debate surrounding the federal government’s stylistic choices in public building projects in the United States and how government decisions shape the aesthetic appeal of cities across the Atlantic.

The lecture was followed by a discussion with the audience.
