A roundtable discussion at Common Sense Society–Hungary
On Wednesday, January 11, Common Sense Society–Hungary (CSS–HU) members and special guests gathered at the Andrássy Salon for a roundtable discussion featuring the head of the office of the prime minister’s political director of the prime minister of Hungary, Dr. Márton Ugrósdy, associate professor within the Department for Water Policy and Environmental Policy at the National University for Public Service, Dr. János Zlinszky, and the director of Green Policy Center, Mr. András Huszár.
The evening’s speakers began the conversation with their reflections on the recent geopolitical and domestic energy policy shifts in connection to the Russian-Ukrainian war. How have these shifts affected the advancement of sustainability and climate aspirations in Europe? What is the relationship between short-term supply measures and long-term environmental goals?
They elaborated on the main lessons Hungary could learn from the past and current crisis-laden period, as well as how Hungary can improve preparedness for future shocks and overall “crisis resistance.”
Finally, the panelists touched on article of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Political Director, Mr. Balázs Orbán (also an alumnus of CSS) about Hungary’s geostrategy, published only a few days prior to the event. In their concluding remarks, the three speakers suggested what they consider to be the main energy and climate neutrality aspirations, and what (in)dependence means in this technological context.
